Peter, thanks for asking your friend. I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. I wasn't expecting so many enthusiastic responses to my quest to design and build my own Geiger counter. It has taken a while to read through them all. Bear in mind I'm usually either on a 3 hour lunch break or home after work absolutely shattered.

At weekends because I'm usually out driving and amidst a crowd of people, I normally stay home and sit quietly doing my own thing in the tranquility of my microcontroller lab - much to the annoyance of 'er indoors who wants company and conversation. She's disabled and doesn't work.
