Due to me not having a clue about what I am doing I had put some symlinks 
in to make some s/ware compile which was the problem.
Since then I have reinstalled the kernal source and pointed 
/usr/include/linux > /usr/src/linux/include/linux
/usr/include/asm > /usr/src/linux/include/asm
All seems to be ok now
Expect this is the wrong way to go about it but my philosophy is " if it 
ain't broke then somehow I will break it " :-)
