That would be my suggestion, however I suppose you may well not know the
administrator's password, no?
A quick search on google recommends booting with something like the
"Emergency Boot CD"; http://ebcd.pcministry.com/. If it doesn't boot you
can use http://ebcd.pcministry.com/download/oldbios.exe to write a
bootable floppy which will load necessary drivers then pass control to
the CD.
- From here you can boot straight to windows and get it to write a new MBR
record, or get it to write one for you. If you want to do it from within
XP (after booting it from the EBCD) (from memory) run "msconfig"
(start->run"), find the boot.ini section, change it inconsequentially,
then hit apply, then change back and apply again.
I haven't actually used the EBCD, but it looks like it should work fine.
