Jono, I'm confused by your needs

Do you mean 'email TO @jonobacon.org is forwarded to an ISP'
Then you want to download it to your home server, sort it and be able to access it internally and externally?

Why not just run the receiving mail server on your home server (Exim) , which will only allow users set up like
jono, info , etc rather than aaaddd at jono.org  - this will get rid of a lot of spam.
Use Exim to connect to a spam database to weed out even more.
Then connect to the box from wherever using IMAP.

Or have I missed your point?
