Ok, I have cooled down! :-)

its not comprehensive, but a good start.

I have managed to get SuSe to detect the Phonic modem
I told you about, but on a different pc to the one I
was trying to connect. Therefore I have eliminated the
issue of the modem so to speak. How can I check the
COM ports using  SuSE 9.0 Pro? My "Linux in a
nutshell" lists at the beginning a command "setserial"
but is not listed in the main text so I am not sure
what the command does or its options. Or I might do a
re-install as my friend has done little on it since I
installed SuSE so there is nothing to back up etc,
would this "wake up" the COM ports?
