OK, make a cup of coffee, here we go.
I currently run Fedora Core 3 on my Dell Latitude laptop if you like RedHat
you'll love Fedora it does run apt I exclusively use it with Synaptic front
end.
My mate Sparkes :-) was about 60% correct when he said it was a dead end
Distro but then that depends on what your expectations are, if your looking
for a 90-95% stable release with lots and lots of updates and new stuff being
available very regularly then this is for you. Most of the bugs and hardware
problems (theres not that many) are fixed fairly quickly what nearly all
Fedora users fail to remember is there are two points about this Distro;
1. Its Free! you didn't pay for it so don't bitch about it!
2. It is RedHats 'Research & Development' department! all Fedora users are
trying out stuff, fixing stuff that may show up in their 'pay for' releases.
I also use Suse 9.2 on my PC (Thanks Adam) This is how a paid for Distro
should be, works out of the box (in most cases) you don't need any special
skills to use it it will automatically set up drives devices and goodness
knows what.
I do have a sealed box of Suse Pro 9.2 available (My mate came up trumps Adam)
while I do have a slight modem problem at the minute I think this is my fault
and not the Distro.
If I was asked to decide which one I could keep and which to lose I would
probably keep the Fedora I have used RedHat since day one so its like that
old jumper you just cant throw it out, however if I was asked which one for a
newbie and they was the only two choices I would say Suse.
Sorry if thats not given you any hard facts as to which one but at least I
currently use both Distros :-)
Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS one and all.
