Ok, I need someone to help me understand something that is probably very simple.

Web stats - what's the difference between visits, pages and hits?

I can understand visits, I think, but pages and hits? My site is
primarily one page, unless you click on archived entries and dig
deeper - does this generate page counts? If so, what the hell is a
hit?

Example:

One day last week I had,

140 visits	565 pages	1069 hits

which is about average, but I'm not understanding the relationship
between the three so it's not making much sense to me.
