You need to get teh right version of the java plugin ... there are normally at least two versions - one compiled for gcc3.X and one not. Depending on what mozilla/netscape was compiled with will determine which one you need to use - so if one fails, try the other. You can check if the plugin is loaded by going to about:plugins as a URL.
