It isn't a perfect cage though, you can detect a
passing car using a relativly small radio telescope
and I have the traces to prove it :-).

I spent a happy day at Joderel Bank playing with one
of their lesser telescopes (a university field trip, I
did astrophysics) and several times cars drove close
to the  dish and cause big spikes on the readout (no
motorbikes were available for comparison however).
Different cars have different rf signitures but they
were all in the same order as a local group galaxy.
