IIRC Red Hat/Fedora has sendmail configured to refuse smtp connections 
from anything other than localhost by default.

could this be your problem?

If so, the solution is to edit /etc/sendmail.cf (or modify the m4 config 
file and use that).

It may be easier to switch from sendmail to postfix/exim/qmail/(insert 
anything MTA name here).

It is said that you are not a true sysadmin until you have edited 
/etc/sendmail.cf by hand and that you are/will go mad if you do so 
twice.
