Hi all,
As part of my project I have to implement a virus/spam
email filter. I have a fully working mail system
(Postfix) on Debian Testing.
I have read a number of tutorials and howtos already
and none of them have yet led me to understand quite
what is involved, they all use different combinations
of packages and so on. Also they all seem to be
written in Hebrew or something.
I understand that what I need is essentially
Spamassassin, ClamAv, Amavis-new, Procmail and
possibly mailscanner and a few other things. I am
reluctant to step outside of the Debian package
management system.
However, I still don't quite understand how they link
together and what should happen when an email arrives.
An simple explanation or link to a introductory howto
would be great.
Next I need to learn how to put it all together. The
howtos I've read so far look pretty intimidating as do
the config files, can anyone recommend a howto?
What I need to do is essentially filter all incoming
mail for viruses and spam, drop anything found into
the user's spam mail folder and inform the amavis logs
of the findings so it will be reported by the
amavis-stats graphs.
I have been casually looking into this for a few weeks
now and am getting nearer the due date, but no nearer
a working solution.
Any advice, hints, links or RTFMs appreciated.
