I'd thought of that, but I don't wanna re-invent the wheel if you know 
what I mean? I might look at it though later, there seems to be a lack 
of decent GUI tape backup programs for linux.

Anyone recommend a language to do this in? I can still do a bit of C/C++ 
   so i'd try that, but if anyone wants to recommend something else i'll 
give it a shot.
