Just recycling someone else's knowledge here: the graphical tool for
choosing screen resolution just offers you whatever daft options are in
the textual config file so you need to change it as Mark suggests or 
using some other tool.

Have a look at the Ubuntu guide that we've all been referring to 
recently. I think there were three components to download for NVidea. 
I've only got 2 so far but I think the other is a setup tool.
