[Wolves] ubuntu modem set up

Guys and girls hang fire on this one.  I think I might have solved my
own problem.  The darn good old trusty old USR external seems to be
dead :-((((  I hadn't realised because the power light still comes on.
 I just popped the SuSE hard drive in place to check it was working
and.....it didn't.   So, it looks like I need to find another external
modem :-(((

eBay here I come.
