Perhaps the best thing would be a web subscription?
http://www.britannica.com/ is quite a good one.  I would not go down the
"wikipedia will solve my problem" route yet, as the information content
and editorial policy is highly contested.  Nature's study
(http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v438/n7070/full/438900a.html) into
Wikipedia is closed, and further research (admittedly by Britannica)
shows different findings.
