It is trivial from a user point of view but I think it presents more
of a problem from a Independant Software Vendor point of view. I
recently bought Nero for Linux (CD/DVD Burning software) because
growisofs based applications (k3b, nautilus CD burner etc) didn't
support the device I bought.

Nero for Linux isn't written in qt or gtk (I'm not sure what it is
written in to be honest) and it looks fairly terrible in both Gnome
and KDE - especially with the file chooser interface.

I think this is a barrier to closed source vendors writing more
software for Linux desktops - users get confused a lot when it comes
to navigating the filesystem and having n different interfaces for
doing this is a very bad thing.

It's something that I would like to see fixed but I can't see how at
the moment unless KDE and Gnome build some guidelines so the file
chooser looks and acts exactly the same in both environments.

P.S. I'll have a nice cup of Gnome Desktop for me pls
