Have a look a Philips webcams, I've had a PCVC680K and
it has been working for around 6 years. It broke
during Dapper or Edgy I think and started working
again in the release afterwards.

Apart from a time when the existing driver maintainer
threw a few wobblies and stopped working on it,
support has been consistent. He is no longer
maintaining it and support has been stable in the
mainline kernel for around 3 or 4 years. I'm not sure
what caused it stop working in the release I mentioned
above.

I see that there is one which looks the same as mine
here:

though it may be a different model, the seller doesn't
say, but you could ask.

Also here:

is another webcam listed as supported. It would do you
a favour to check out what google says currently about
these models, as the supported models page is over 2
and a half years old.

You could even download the kernel source for your
current kernel and look at the driver documentation
(driver is called pwc).

At £10 or so it's worth a punt. Mine works on Ubuntu
Gutsy, I've just checked it. Whether it works for you,
I can make no guarantees. Whether the resolution is
what you want is another thing entirely.
