I've been watching this discussion of computer prices et al regarding the
eec.

Why would you do it. You can pick up a reasonable spec laptop, 1GB ram,
hard drive, modern processor, screen, and vista OS for ~£200 including VAT.

God they are nice looking and very tempting machines.... but why has
it taken so long for them to hit the market? I mean, Sony did a very
similar thing about 7 or 8 years ago!!!! Similar small form factor
(10" inch TFT screen) 12gb drive and I think it was a 1.2megapixel
built in camera. The only things that let it down were memory which
would only go up to 128mb (64mb standard) and the CPU was around
400mhz. Yes, I know Xubuntu would run on it and I may get round to
trying to install it when I get the whole thing back together. Dick
has seen this machine it was called the Sony Picturebook. They were
beautiful. Even forgetting having Linux on it why did it take so long
for these to come to market with a decent spec?

Oh, in case you're wondering. Mine is in bits because I did try
installing Puppy Linux on it about 18 months ago.... I ended up having
to remove the hard drive (no easy task on the Sony as everything had
to come out) to try installing direct. It still didn't work so it was
a pointless exercise and I got bored :-( I must sit down and get it
all back together....
