Tried installing Ubuntu on my brothers PC the other week, admitedly 8.04.
However the installer really did not want to start the GUI, instead droped
down to an initramfs console.
Is this expected behaviour of Ubuntu? I assume it was the Geforce 7800 it
did not like, but then it would have been helpful to show some kind of
message when X fails to start.

Naturally Mandriva worked perfectly :)
