May I offer a suggestion?  don't use UNC on such a slim shaft.  Go for
UNF instead.  UNC = UNified Coarse whereas UNF = UNified Fine.  As in
a finer thread.  Unless it is being screwed into a soft alloy in which
a coarser thread is better.  Try eBay, there are usually some
individual dies available on there at a very reasonable price.
