Firewalling with Linux and IPTables

Tuesday 26 Febuary 2002 [P/L002, Physics Building, University of York]

This talk looks at how to design a good firewall, using IPTables
as the vehicle. Starting with a discussion of the different
of network protocols and their differences, it moves onto firewalling
a single machine (including detecting scans and out-of-spec packets),
designing and implementing a gateway machine to protect a group
of other machines and concludes with a (very) brief look at some of the
more unusual things IPTables can do.

Additional notes (added by Nigel)
YLUG web pages are at http://www.york.lug.org.uk/
They include a campus map - Physics building is the green blob
numbered 14 near the bottom (the number seems to be in the lake).
P/L002 is on the ground floor, end nearest Central Hall (2).
There is a public usable car park to the left of this (enter the
University from the Heslington Lane entrance, drive right along
that road and use the left hand car park - which I think is now
pay & display during parts of the evening.
