Greetings All,
Thanks to Rik again for the very quickly produced IP practicalities talk
last month, and thanks to Alisdair for the LVM talk.
This month we have a different sort of talk. Rob Kyle of Manchester
Wireless is going to do a talk on the motivation behind the community
model of providing wireless access, plus technical details of how they
intend to build it.
We also have Aaron Crane with a talk on Mass Unattended Linux
Installation.
For once I've even managed to plan ahead a bit, and the outline of coming
talks upto July are now on the Web site. I still have 2 speaker slots to
fill Mon May 10th, and Mon 12th July. So if you have a talk you want to
give, or can suggest a suitable topic for me to twist arms for - email me.
Hope to see a lot people on Monday. Should be a good session.
Please note, that the April meeting is early - April 5th - to avoid the
clash with Easter Monday.
cheers
Jim

If you feel disenchanted with commercial telecoms providers and the
stranglehold which they have over our Internet access, if you are
unable to meet the costs, or even unable to receive broadband, then
you will be excited, as we are, at the prospect of an open and
autonomous approach to networking. We can realise some of the promise
of modern communications on a local level at a fraction of the
commercial cost by building our owncommunity networks.
Mass Unattended Linux Installations
Aaron Crane
GBdirect
Modern Linux distributions seek to minimise the amount of handholding
needed to install them. In this talk, Aaron discusses why you might
want to install systems without any user interaction at all, and
examines some of the obstacles to unattended installation. He also
looks at a real-world case study with some special requirements that
existing tools find it hard to meet.
