Hi All,
Our next meeting includes two talks:
1. An Introduction to VOIP (Internet Telephony) - Adam Lindford
2. Kernel Processes and Threads - Jim Jackson
The meeting takes place at the usual place and time:
7.00 pm Stoner Building, Leeds University
As usual, the room will be open from about 6.30 pm for tea coffee and
chat.
Rob Speed will be 'in the chair'.
An Introduction to Voice Over IP - Adam Lindford
------------------------------------------------
This is the first of two talks Adam will be delivering on VOIP. It is
designed as a basic introduction, explaining exactly what VOIP is and
how it can be used from a lay person's point of view.
The talk is designed to provide the base for Adam's later talk which
will explore the more interesting details and esoterica (including
implementation of Asterix PBX).
Adam works in VOIP and telecoms and can talk from years of professional
experience in the field ... so there should be ample opportunity for
searching questions and discussion.
Kernel Processes and Threads - Jim Jackson
------------------------------------------
Jim's talk is designed along similar lines to Mark Conmy's talk lst
month on "What is an Operating System", i.e. it aims to explain what
processes and threads really are in Linux, what they are for and how
they in work.
In short, it is an exploration of the kind of computing fundamentals
that many of us just take for granted.
As such, it should be of interest to both beginners and more experience
Linux users.
Dave
