Many of you will already know that the European Presidency (sponsored by
Microsoft! http://www.eu2004.ie/sitetools/sponsorship.asp) has organised
votes in the council of ministers to pass a law allowing software to be
patented US style, in complete disregard of the vote by the EU Parliament in
September amending the bill to explicitly disallow software patents.
The Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure (FFII) has organised a
'net strike', where website homepages are replaced with a protest page, to
call attention to the matter:
http://www.ffii.org/ffii-cgi/aktiv?l=en&f=netstrike
Perhaps we should consider replaing the WYLUG homepage with a protest page?
I'm sure there are WYLUG members with their own websites, and ownership or
influence over websites which have a large readership, who might be able to
help make a difference with this campaign.
Cheers
