I'm new to the world of laptops. I need to run some software that is
dongle-protected, and it doesn't work under win4lin (tried it on my
workstation), so I have to keep windows.

I know I can repartition the drive to get a dual boot, but I wondered whether
it is feasible to install linux on a removable drive? This is an Acer 4601,
and the bios boot sequence only offers Hard Drive, Floppy Devices, CD-ROM/DVD
drive and Network Boot, so unless options get added when a removable drive is
attached, I'm guessing that it is not capable of booting from it. Is that
right?

My home is very old, and has solid walls, up to 3 feet thick in places. The
wireless connection to the lan works well in some rooms, but gets no signal
at all in my study. Is there such a thing as a signal booster? If so, where
would it sit in the lan?

Anne
