All I can say, Dave, is that I did create my mpeg2 files using mpeg2enc 
-f 8.

There's a low-volume very useful ML at mjpeg-users at lists.sourceforge.net 
where developers and lots of knowledgeable users hang out.  I'd 
seriously recommend that you subscribe.  If there is a way to do what 
you want, someone there will have done it.
