David,

Wine has come on in leaps and bounds in the last six months - try taking a
look again with the latest versions. You'd be surprised at what you can
get running (although "The Sims" seems to be not well supported, plenty of
other things are).

HTH,

John

Thanks for the link. I will give it a go.

I know there are a number of members of this mail group with kids, and I
wonder how they get on trying to satisfy their requirements. I for one have
never had much success with wine ( the software, not the drink!)

David

You could always fork out for transgaming's Cedega ( I know it's not hip
and happening with the free software policies, but it will shut your kids
up) which should allow you to play it.

Hi,

I have being using Linux on my home computer for a number of years, safe in
the knowledge it provides an unbustable virus free environment for the
family. I have even installed Dans Guardian, ( a very good product) so the
little 'uns cannot visit dodgy web site. However, my daughter now wishes to
play The Sims. Has anyone every tried to get it running on linux?

I got the usual cry this morning "why can't our computer be the same as
everyone else's!"
