[Wylug-discuss] *nix on G4 Mac Mini

I have a G4 Mac Mini that I bought partly out of curiousity and partly
for the Mac's supposed multimedia editing capabilities ... using the
excuse that it was the only practical way to do detailed website
compatibility testing on Safari ;-)

I rarely use it these days, not least because it is dog slow and I truly
hate the desktop's (non)usability.

So I've begun to wonder about replacing the OS with some sort of *nix,
e.g. to use it for testing and protyping websites

Has anyone got any relevant experience or recommendations?

I don't really have the time to roll my own OS, so I'd be particularly
interested to know if I'd actually get any worthwhile performance
improvement out of a stock Linux/BSD/*nix distro.

Obviously, I'd also like to know in advance of any notable hardware
compatibility issues.
