If anyone's interested in privacy-enhancing alternatives to twitter,
have a look at this project that some friends have set up: https://indy.im/

It uses the GPLed status.net code with a privacy-respecting
link-shortener, uses openid and interoperates with corporate services
like faceache. For those of us who want to preserve our online privacy,
but have to interact somehow with facetwits, it makes a useful "digital
condom".
