To summarise:

Leeds Libraries lend e-books in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) epub and
pdf formats.

At present you need Windows, Wine or OSX to make them readable on a
dedicated e-reader ... but you can read them via OverDrive on both
Android and practically every popular e-book reader apart from the
most popular one by far, i.e. Kindle.

Some options for Linux-only Kindle owners:

1. Wait for Leeds Libraries to support the Kindle through OverDrive,
like US public libraries do
2. Hack the inept python scripts to make them work on the command line
3. ...
