Hi,

Try using the Gnome disk utility as root.

It's called palimpset. It should clearly show the usb device if it has
been detected and you should be able to verify size, etc from the
details given to make sure it's not the wrong one.

Other than that tailing syslog when you insert the device should give
you the mapping too.
