[Wylug-discuss] New to Leeds Need to find a LUG

Hi Rob

Bradlug was a spin-off from wylug at a time when wylug was doing reasonably
well and we began very much in the style of wylug but over the years we have
evolved into a very different beast. For example, we make regular contributions
to the voluntary sector newsletter, Briefing Bradford, and we have a half hour
programme every four weeks on Bradford Community Broadcasting.

Having looked at what different LUGs do across the country, there is no single
pattern and I would argue that most LUGs meet a local need alongside the
broader oggcamps etc.

So I would advise against trying to resurrect wylug as it used to be because
that format - which I first encountered in the late 1990s - is probably no
longer relevant.

The key issue may be the same as it was for Bradlug - access to a wi-fi enabled
venue capable of handling presentations/demonstrations - but, if you can find a
suitable venue in North Leeds, you may find you can generate enough attendance
to justify a LUG.

John
