Are you compiling for a mips machine?

Have you tried: make config instead? I trust you've read the
Kernel-Howto.

A cursory glance suggests that it's installed OK.
Just a tip, if you're looking for files in all directories under
root then you're best off using `locate' rather than `find'.
My best guess is that you're doing something silly (no offence
meant) and you're looking for something subtle rather than something
obvious eg. a problem with curses or awk when I suspect there isn't
any.
