Have you tried with IE and MSs JVM? It could be that the Java is
`Microsoft Java' with it's various incompatabilities. Unfortunately,
client-side Java has been made a minefield by Microsoft deliberately
shipping essentially `proprietary' versions of Java development tools
and JVM.

Sun have got them to cease & desist but the damage has already been
done. How about the OSS community building a specially extended &
mangled version of .NET? ie. one that doesn't work with MS .NET :)

I think Sun's JDK 1.3 is known to work OK with Mozilla but I
haven't used it. I avoid sites that require Java and Flash.

Also have a look at www.mozilla.org for info on Mozilla/Linux/Java and
see what gives.
