Thanks to everyone who replied to this.  I will certainly check out
prices in your recommendations in the future.

The problem must have been a temporary glitch in some multiplier in
Amazon's database this morning.

Prices are now back to normal.  Just as well I didn't order this
morning!

Very strange.
