[Wylug-help] Formatting SmartMedia?

I've just had the good fortune to acquire a digital camera, and all was
going well with accessing all the files in linux via usb, when I
accidentally unplugged the usb cable while the drive was still mounted.
This didn't seem to cause a problem to begin with, but now it appears
that the drive can't be mounted and the camera won't format it :(

Does anyone know of a way of formatting the device in another way? I've
tried formatting/checking the block device which I mounted before, but
it keeps saying 'No medium found'. Does anyone have a smartmedia reader
which they could try formatting my card in? or is there an easier/other
way?
