| I was a debian user, but I felt like trying Redhat. My old k6 adsl
router died
| so the redhat box got a job. Couldn't stand up2date, and wanted apt back.
| Felt like seeing what it could do so I played with it. Still got me into a
| hideous dependancy mess, and along came Gentoo and solved all my
dependency
| problems.
|
| Thinking about it, I didn't use apt4rpm, it was apt-rpm.
| http://apt-rpm.tuxfamily.org/ which is quite Redhat specific, sorry :)

I found Gentoo a few months back.

It's solved a lot of problems for me, such as DVD playback on my ageing
laptop. It used to max out the CPU trying to play DVDs, but now is
handles it easily.

Building optimised versions of the various media tools (eg:
transcode/mpegtools) really helped too. The performance boost I got from
Gentoo was pretty amazing.

The package management is very good in Gentoo, emerge takes care of
everything wonderfully.

James
