It is probably a better idea to get an external modem, it is a more flexible
approach.
I however have an internal PCI HCF (Controllerless) modem (a winmodem) made
by Motorola but since bought out by conexant.
Try http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/ . My modem is supported :) this has
been working fine for me from beta release. (2.4.X kernels).
