I am trying to do a network in stall of Debian stable on a bog standard
Celery 333 machine with an equally bog standard MB, GA-6XE.

After the normal hassle of actually writing good floppies, I get into the
config. But the network card is not detected.

First I tried an NE-311, then a 8139, the a 8029 and finally in a last ditch
attempt, a genuine NE-2000.

It appear that the kernel on the rescue disk does not support any of these
cards. Am I missing something, or do I need a special rescue disk for a
network install?
