Yes, it was a bug in 9.2.  Try update-menus -v in a root console.  I think
you'll find that it fixes it and it shouldn't happen again if you have got
the updates.

Many people feel that 9.2 was not a highlight of Mandrake distros.  For me 9.1
was rock solid.  10.0 defaults to the 2.6 kernels, and I'm not altogether
convinced that the problems are over, there, but you can install a 2.4 kernel
as an additional one.  See how you get on with 9.2.
