The fact that it won't boot from CD leads me to think that there's a BIOS/IDE
problem. I'd try disconnecting all HDs, leaving only the CD connected and set
to master. Then recheck BIOS to see that it detected this device. Finally,
see if it'll boot from the CD. The result of this test should set him on the
right path.
