I'm having huge problems with a box into which I've put an Audigy Platimum
soundcard (original Audigy, not Audigy2), and wonder whether my problems are
kernel-related, so I'd like some opinions.

I run Mandrake 10 with a 2.6 kernel. If I use the alsa driver for the card I
get good quality 5.1 sound, but no mixer shows any inputs at all. Recording
is impossible. If I switch to the oss driver I get sound from CD and mp3 but
aRTs can't start. The mixers show a much-reduced set, but do show inputs and
outputs, and recording looks possible (haven't tried it, but at least
recordable inputs are there). Music, however, is reduced to simple 2-speaker
output. Emu10k-tools don't appear to work at all, with either driver.

I have used this card with Mandrake 9.1 and 2.4.22 kernel with great success.
All the front-panel inputs were available, so I know it's not the hardware.
I'm seriously wondering whether I should install a 2.4 kernel on that box.

How likely would you think it that there is a big problem here with the 2.6
kernel? I don't know if it's relevant, but it looks to me as though the
'tools stopped development in 2002. All the documentation looks very old,
too. I'd be glad to hear any comments/recommendations.
