This is a known problem and I believe it is about reconfiguring grub -
but I don't know how. I had a machine running a relatively stable
version of W98 on the sole 60GB hdd. I installed an 80GB hdd and made it
master, the original slave, and installed a bog standard workstation
from FC2 discs 1 and 2 (kindly supplied on the cover of Linux Format,
August issue). Now there is only one disc/OS recognised at boot time. Am
I right in thinking it is a grub.conf problem or would I be better
putting install disc 1 back in and typing linux hda=10011,255,63 at the
boot: prompt? If it is grub.conf, can anyone tell me what I should
change it to?
/boot/grub/grub.conf reads as follows (with the output of fdisk -l
following):
#grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
#Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this
file
#Notice: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot, e.g.
# root (hd0,hd0)
# kernel /vmlinuz ro root=/dev/hda2
# initrd /initrd-version.img
#boot=/dev/hda
default=0
timeout=10
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
password --md5 blahblah
title Fedora Core (2.6.5-1.358)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.5-1.358 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
initrd /initrd-2.6.5-1.358.img
which completeds the file; I'm not sure if you need to know what fdisk
-l produces so I've put it at the end and the parts describing how the
discs are partitioned are unlikely to line up properly:
Disk /dev/hda: 82.3GB, 82348277760 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 10011 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

/dev/hdb5 3908 4545 5124703+ b W95 FAT32
(the remainder of this file describes how I have my W98 hdd
partitioned, not of help in solving the problem)
Many thanks for taking a look. Hope someone can help.
Best regards,
Mike
