I've  never understood why this happened, and I've not heard of anyone else
having the same problem.  However....  Getting your sources set up won't, in
itself, do anything to resolve the problem.  I still think it's worth trying
the update (NOT media update, but package update) from your sources - I
presume they were set up *after* the disaster?
