I don't think you can overstress the importance of this to a newbie.  
It's the same reason that kept me with Mandrake/Mandriva.  I would 
recommend that a look at the archives for mailing list support would 
give you a good overview of the level of help you will get.  Constant 
RTFMs are not going to encourage anyone.
