  Thanks to Jim I can read your message better now it's in plain text.

  There is a space between the '/' and 'g' above. If this is also true
of your menu.lst [grub configuration] file, then GrUB is trying to load
the root directory of the partition as the kernel and pass it
'gentoo-testing' as kernel parameters. In this case, "Invalid or
unsupported" means "I can't boot from this - it's a directory".
