OK I've got a cold and may not be thinking clearly here - but off hand I
can't think why the REN number should have much relevance to an ADSL
filter?

The REN number is an indication of the load the device places on the
phone line i.e. how much current it will take when the ringing signal is
on the line. If there is too much load then the either the BT lines
drivers won't cope, or there will be too much voltage drop
on the line.

An ADSL filter essentially is a passive low-pass AC filter. While such a
device will obviously have current limits, I'd wager that they'd cope with
normal house REN loads. We are not talking about serious currents here -
if an ADSL filter blew because of the load of 2 REN then the coils must
have been wound with fuse wire :-)
