[Wylug-help] wireless nearly

hello

i have a compaq evo n800v and in the pcmcia slot a USR805410 wireless 
card.  i installed Ubuntu with quite a bit of effort, and the wireless 
card reckonises the different networks but it can't connect.  i think it 
has something to do with being underpowered as in windows when i am sat 
next to router the signal is 100% but in the same place in ubuntu it's 
approximately 45%.  i tried ndiswrapper from package manager and it's 
still the same.  i have even tried no security.

anyboby got any sugguestions?
