I found the same with my Compaq Armada's "diagnostics" partition.
By mounting it under linux, I noticed there were regular executables
in it and that marking the partition as a regular unhidden MSDOS
filesystem made it readable from FreeDOS ... which seems to run the
executables quite happily.
(In case that's useful, probably more so to Roger)
