ok, nothing interesting there.

I'm not so sure what is going on, but the syslinux usbkey docs go on
about faulty bioses and stuff and using a special tool to make the image
- not sure if this is the problem you're having (doesn't look like it
tbh, but I've not quite the time to understand those docs fully).  Might
be worth having a read:

on ubuntu: /usr/share/doc/syslinux/README.usbkey

Though I'd recommend building the image directly on the key as a test
though.

Shouldn't perhaps rule out a faulty usb key either, though I'd guess
you'd get read/write errors in the kernel ring buffer (dmesg).

To summarize: "urunuh - try some random stuff"
